We are 4th and 5th generation registered Hereford breeders located in Bowman, ND.

Jim Mrnak began his journey with registered Hereford cattle in 1946, marking the beginning of a family breeding program that has been “Hereford through and through” ever since.

Jim’s son, Wayne, carried on the tradition, building and improving the Mrnak Hereford genetics for much of his career at the family’s homestead. Wayne also served on the American Hereford Association Board and chaired the Certified Hereford Beef Board. Throughout the years, Wayne has remained loyal to the Hereford breed, weathering its ups and downs with the unwavering goal of enhancing the breed and producing high-quality, performance-driven cattle that meet the needs of the commercial cattleman.

In 2022, an opportunity to purchase a new property arose, leading Wayne, his wife Jill, and their daughter Robyn and her husband Erick to start their own operation, Z Arrow T Ranch. Although they moved to a new location just a few miles from the original ranch, Wayne retained some pasture for summering the cow/calf pairs.

Robyn, who has been growing her own herd of cattle since childhood, has sold bulls at the annual Mrnak Hereford Production Sale for many years. Her herd is composed of the same trusted Mrnak genetics that have earned a solid reputation in the Hereford world.

Though we have relocated, our core philosophy remains unchanged: To raise functionally sound, easy-fleshing cattle with natural thickness and muscle. We believe a strong, fertile, and problem-free cow herd is the key to our success, and we work tirelessly to breed sound, productive females that thrive in any environment.

We closely monitor the progression of the Hereford breed, from genetics and phenotypes to EPDs and, most importantly, the needs and desires of our customers. As Jim always said, “We aren’t in the cattle business. We are in the people business. If our customers want them purple, then we will make them purple.” Building and maintaining strong relationships with our customers is our number one priority.
